Dubai: Is it mandatory for Golden Visa holders to renew yearly health insurance?

Question: I am a Golden Visa holder in Dubai. Is it mandatory for me to renew my health insurance and that of my family every year?

Answer: According to Dubai’s health insurance regulations, as outlined in the emirate’s health insurance law, it is mandatory for all residents, including Golden Visa holders, to ensure that they and their family members are covered by valid health insurance at all times.

In Dubai, a sponsor must provide health insurance for their dependents if it is not covered by an employer. This requirement is in accordance with Article 11 of Law No. (11) of 2013 Concerning Health Insurance in the Emirate of Dubai.

A sponsor is required to:

  • Enroll the dependents they sponsor in a health insurance plan if not covered by an employer.
  • Bear the cost of health insurance for their dependents without charging it to them.
  • Ensure the validity of the health insurance throughout the dependents’ residence or visit in Dubai.
  • Cover the cost of emergency medical services for dependents who lack health insurance.
  • Provide health insurance cards to the dependents they sponsor.
  • Submit valid health insurance policies when issuing or renewing residence or visit permits for their dependents.
  • Fulfill any other obligations outlined by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA).
  • These legal requirements make it obligatory for sponsors to obtain and maintain health insurance for themselves and their dependents, regardless of their Golden Visa status.

Applicable Law:

Law No. (11) of 2013 Concerning Health Insurance in the Emirate of Dubai
